Also, we have the option to save that graphic style. The same way we can save swatches. As well as load other graphic styles into our Illustrator file. And that is how you use the graphic libraries and styles in Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator Graphic Styles For Text
- 0:00[Deep Dive]
- 0:03[Applying Effects Graphic Libraries & Styles with Mat Helme]
- 0:06If you ever want to apply multiple effects to an object and save them,
- 0:10you're just in luck.
- 0:12Inside Illustrator's graphics panel, we can do just that.
- 0:16The panel also comes packed with a ton of graphical presets
- 0:21in the graphics library.
- 0:24To understand what a graphic library and graphic styles are,
- 0:29we first need to make sure we have our graphic styles panel open.
- 0:34So let's go to Window and select Graphic Styles or use the shortcut key, shift F5.
- 0:44Now this panel, the graphic styles panel,
- 0:48is here to create name and apply sets of appearance attributes.
- 0:53Any graphic style used or created
- 0:56within the current viewed document is stored here.
- 0:59With that said, let's take a look at some graphic styles.
- 1:02To do that, we need to go to Window, Graphic Style Libraries, and select one.
- 1:07Let's select 3D Effects.
- 1:11And what I'm going to do is merge the 3D effects
- 1:14right next to the graphic styles panel.
- 1:17So now we're able to switch back and forth.
- 1:20So if I go ahead and delete all the graphic styles in the panel,
- 1:25and then from the 3D effects panel,
- 1:28drag and drop an effect to the rectangle,
- 1:33it then applies that graphic style to that object.
- 1:38And what the graphic style is comprised of is different stokes, fills, and effects.
- 1:43And we can see those in the appearance panel.
- 1:46So with that object selected, you can see it's comprised
- 1:50of 3 different strokes, a 3D extrude and bevel effect, and a fill.
- 1:57Also, you can now see that graphic style has been added to
- 2:03our graphic styles panel as we're using it in this document.
- 2:07Another way to add a graphic style to an object
- 2:11is by selecting the object and then selecting the graphic style.
- 2:16And again, it's been added to our graphic styles panel
- 2:19as we're using it in the document.
- 2:23And these are all of the default 3D effects you can apply to your objects.
- 2:30Next up, we have the additive for the blob brush,
- 2:34and we can view those graphic styles by going to
- 2:37Window, going back to the Graphic Styles Library,
- 2:41and selecting Additive For Blob Brush,
- 2:44or in the bottom left of the 3D effects panel, you'll see this arrow,
- 2:49and it will load the next Graphic Styles Library,
- 2:52which is the Additive For Blob Brush.
- 2:54So let's take a look at those.
- 2:58Here you can see I have 4 objects
- 3:00that have all been created with the blob brush.
- 3:03Now what this graphic style does is it applies
- 3:06that effect to the blob brush object.
- 3:10So when I drag that effect out and apply it to the object,
- 3:14you can see it's applied,
- 3:16but you only see the path of the object when it's selected.
- 3:21That's because there's no fill.
- 3:23So when we select a fill color,
- 3:25you can then see that effect has then been applied to that object
- 3:29as long as there's a fill color.
- 3:31So if I grab the blob brush tool
- 3:36and create an object,
- 3:38select the object, and then apply the effect--
- 3:41make sure it has that fill color,
- 3:43you can see the effect is then applied to the blob brush object.
- 3:48And that is the Additive For Blob Brush.
- 3:50Next up, we have the Additive Graphic Library.
- 3:55Now the additive graphic styles simply add graphics to the object.
- 4:00So with this object selected,
- 4:04I can then select one of the graphic styles from the additive panel.
- 4:10And again, make sure there's a fill.
- 4:12And you can see that there's now been another rectangle added to it.
- 4:21And you can add all of these other styles as well.
- 4:25After the additive panel, we have the Artistic Effects.
- 4:33And again, let's drag and drop,
- 4:36and you can see all these effects applied to the rectangles.
- 4:41Those are the artistic effects.
- 4:44And after that, we have Buttons & Rollovers,
- 4:50which appear to be created in the Web 2.0 era.
- 4:55When you adjust the objects,
- 4:57you can see how the effect is then re-rendered to the object.
- 5:10And after Buttons & Rollovers, we have the Illuminate Styles,
- 5:16which are gradients that can e applied to objects
- 5:19as well as stokes.
- 5:24Again, these were probably created in the Web 2.0 glossy era.
- 5:31And then we have our Image Effects.
- 5:33So play around with these as you wish.
- 5:39And we have our Neon Effects after that.
- 5:44These actually look pretty cool with text.
- 5:57Now you can see we have some neon lettering.
- 6:00After the Neon Effects, we have the Scribble Effects,
- 6:03and these simply apply a scribble effect to the object.
- 6:09And you can see this object here.
- 6:14When we open up the appearance panel,
- 6:16you can see with this object,
- 6:18it has multiple scribble effects applied to multiple fills within the one object.
- 6:26After the Scribble Effect, we have the Textures.
- 6:36And these simply apply textures to the objects.
- 6:43After that we have Type Effects.
- 6:53And again, these can be applied to type as well.
- 6:56And after the Type Effects, we have the Vonster Pattern Effects.
- 7:03Now these patterns are created by Von Glitschka
- 7:07who is a very talented illustrator and designer,
- 7:10and these patterns are basically comprised of
- 7:13repeated patterns on multiple fills.
- 7:18This being the background color and this being the repeated pattern.
- 7:29And lastly, let's take a look at creating our own graphic style.
- 7:39So with our object selected, let's go ahead and apply
- 7:42a 3D effect to it with the Extrude and Bevel.
- 8:13And let's bump up the height on the bevel.
- 8:17Select okay.
- 8:19Let's head over to the appearance panel.
- 8:23And with the object selected, let's add a new fill.
- 8:29And then on that fill, let's apply a Photoshop effect
- 8:38where I'm going to select grain and
- 8:46bump up the intensity.
- 8:49And for gain type, let's use soft.
- 8:52Select okay.
- 8:56Next let's pull out the appearance panel
- 8:59and the graphic styles panel,
- 9:02and with our object selected,
- 9:04let's grab the thumbnail on the upper left hand corner of appearance
- 9:09and drag it into the graphic styles.
- 9:14And now you can see we have a new graphic styles.
- 9:18So when we double click that, we can rename it.
- 9:21We'll call this new style.
- 9:24And when we create a new rectangle,
- 9:29we can then apply our new style to that object.
- 9:38Also, we have the option to save that graphic style
- 9:41the same way we can save swatches
- 9:44as well as load other graphic styles into our Illustrator file.
- 9:50And that is how you use the graphic libraries and styles in Adobe Illustrator.
